The concept of food for the soul was the starting point of this documentary series. The intention is to capture emotions, create memories and go to the roots of history and lifestyles with legendary figures and colorful characters, while preparing unique regional dishes. Food will be presented through vibrant life stories. It’s an art, a way to communicate feelings, express happiness and a myriad of emotions that are so relevant to our daily lives. The episodes will go deep into the life-stories of people, music and local rituals, allowing the audience to experience the transformation that fruit, vegetables, condiment and other raw bits and pieces undergo in order to become a work of art – a true ritual of joy and fulfillment. In addition to substance, consistency and taste for the palate, we are specially interested in portraying the concept of nourishment for the soul. It is a process of transformation, discovery and enlightenment.
During the first season, those who are familiar with Brazil will be thrilled to revive memories and learn about new ways to improve their well-being. All those who will journey through Brazil for the first time will celebrate this country’s unique lifestyle and bring home ideas, inspiration and joy to share with family, friends and that significant other. In the following seasons we will travel with YARA ROBERTS throughout the world, bringing back novel stories, music, traditions and so much more.

The Background

Filmmaker Vivian Orni and Yara Roberts met in Boston. Vivian was working at the media lab at MIT after having graduated from New York University Film School, and Yara was developing her culinary abilities at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. From the onset Vivian and Yara had many things in common: despite the fact that they were both Brazilian, they also shared the concept of reaching out for their roots in order to nourish one’s soul – a place where heart and the mind intertwine.
Upon returning to Brazil they conceived a documentary series, which brings together their talent in culinary, filmmaking and the desire to explore different cultures and share their experiences. They’ve created the series DELICIOUS, which has brought them to the heart of South America. From the Amazon, through the vast plains of the Cerrado all the way to Rio de Janeiro, during the first season they have captured the essence of Brazil, a country unique for its traditions, surrounding themselves by distinctive dishes and characters that are presented in a dazzling manner – connecting ingredients, life stories, rituals and humor.
The storyline for each episode follows the experience of guests, who come from all over the world, in order to attend Yara’s Academy of Cooking and Other Pleasures in Rio de Janeiro. Each episode concentrates on a particular region. Yara prepares a regional meal with her students, while bringing them on a journey of discovery and enchantment.
The episodes include verité-like documentary images of Yara’s and Vivian’s exploration trips, illustrated by anecdotes and true life stories. They visit Bahia, the African state of Brazil, then move on to the Amazon with its Native-Indian influence, Goiás considered the richest savanna in the world, Minas Gerais in the inlands of Brazil, a place that adds Portuguese flavors to the African and Indian cuisines, culminating in Rio de Janeiro, where Yara’s guests are eager to learn.

Their future travel plans already include several countries in South America, the US, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, the UK, Thailand among many others. Stay tuned for another DELICIOUS destination.

The series is captured in Full HD. The images are stunningly vivid and genuine.
